Last year, I published the results of a small, qualitative survey on the state of the art in content creation. Despite the small sample size and the relative simplicity of my statistical chops, it turned into a fascinating overview of how content pros do their jobs.
I'm excited that Researchscape International has agreed to team up with Tweney Media for the 2nd annual version of this survey. This will make the survey at least 100% more statistically significant!
Researchscape's participation also lets us widen the scope to include many more people who create content, even if their job titles don't include "content creator" or "writer."
If you create work-related content—social media posts, blog posts, bylines, or marketing materials—please take our survey!
Here's a preview of the early, preliminary returns: Just one-fifth of respondents have content creation as their main job. Another 40 percent say it's one of their primary job functions, and another fifth say it's secondary.

So go ahead and take that survey even if content is not your main job.
So far, respondents say the top five types of content they create are social media posts, marketing emails, marketing collateral, blog posts, and video scripts.

There will be a lot more detail once we've finalized the results, including:
- what kinds of tools people are using to create content
- how they're organizing content projects
- and how people are using AI to help with their content projects
- and much more.
We'll publish the results in May or early June and hold a webinar on June 5 in partnership with PR news resource O'Dwyer's.
I'm excited about this because I got to know Researchscape while working at Highwire. It's a terrific shop that does highly automated data collection and analysis, enabling it to provide sophisticated analysis at reasonable rates.
