Join me for a free Writing Circle, where we cultivate a supportive space for writers at work to access their creativity without fear or judgment.

Over the next three months, I am offering a series of writing circles designed especially for people who write at work: journalists, PR pros, marketing folks, speechwriters, academics, researchers ... anyone for whom writing is a significant part of their work.

I'm offering these circles in collaboration with Foster, an amazing writing collective. You don't need to be a member of Foster to participate (but you will get a taste of the Foster experience, and I hope you'll want to join me there at some point).

There are three upcoming sessions. You can register for one, two, or all three. Each one is 90 minutes long. They are all free, and will all be held on Zoom. Registration details are at the bottom of this post.

  • Tuesday, 9/24 at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern
  • Tuesday, 10/29 at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern
  • Tuesday, 11/19 at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern

Why join a writing circle like this?

Because, whether you’re a professional writer or you “just write a lot” because your job demands it, writing for work can bring a lot of pressure. It can start to feel like a chore, and you can lose the sparkle that makes your writing worth reading (and that makes you proud to have written it).

In this writing circle, you’ll join other writers to reconnect with the more human, powerful side of your work writing.

I will create a spacious, nonjudgmental container for this session — we'll introduce ourselves to each other briefly, and we may start with a short meditation and/or a freewriting exercise. You’ll also have plenty of time (about an hour) to work directly on your writing projects (so yes, this counts as "work time").

If needed, you can get help from me to get “unstuck” during the writing time. At the end, we’ll check in with one another and close the circle with encouragement and joy.

How this writing circle can help you write better at work:

  • Lots of people write for work but find little joy in it. Often, they are doing so alone and without guidance. If this describes you, then this circle aims to provide you with community and camaraderie. In this circle, we are all aiming to write in a more human and truthful way, even at work.
  • Joining a community of other writers can help you tap into the joyful creativity that made you want to be a writer in the first place. Yes, you can have joyful creativity even with “work writing!”
  • Working in a group with others is a helpful way to encourage us to do our best work.
  • Nonjudgmental freewriting exercises can help in overcoming writer’s block or resistance.
  • A simple meditation for releasing tension may help encourage more freedom in writing.
