- Layoffs: Valleywag cuts 60 percent of staff - Bad news for online media: Gawker owner Nick Denton is so pessimistic about advertising in 2009 that he’s retrenching now, ahead of the crisis he sees coming. Denton is very smart, so this is a troubling sign. And, it sucks for the Valleywag crew
