Looks like you greatly out performed your goal of 14 miles.I recently started training for a10k run. We are doing a clinic to help. Right now we do 45 minutes...run 5 minutes walk 1 minute. three times a week. Now, I feel the improvement, and for me I don't find any real pleasure with running...but it is the challenge. And, it is nice to know that I am not the only one that gets the mental challenges to deal with. So often I want o stop, and then I realize it is my mind that is getting weak, not my body!Maybe one day I will get my head around this and run a marathon!Shaw

Hi Dylan,

What a nice post. these days, mornings(4 am), i lay awake peering at the darkness oozing through the closed curtains; while trying not to give in to that call of "one more run".

dft, fear my running days are behind me; those nagging knee injuries(meniscus). i’d been a lifelong distance runner, cross-country mostly; however never a marathon. funny thing, i hated running; yet once started, i could run hours on end. always considered the darkness my friend; a time to reflect. i’ve amassed quite a collection of misplaced currencies, found on every run; searching also assist the mind games.<br

Have any recommendations for regimen? How often per week? What should my goals look like for the first few weeks? Etc.

Dylan: Sounds like I need to start waking up earlier! I think I’m going to give it a try. Have any recommendations for regimen? At the time I was totally wiped out after 3 miles. So I believe you can run longer distances too!Running in the early morning is key for me, before the rest of my family is awake & work starts and all that.BTW, if you can run 3 miles, you can definitely do a 5K (3.1 miles).

Thanks for the comments!

Colin: I started out running just 2-3 miles less than a year ago. I only jog three miles because, at around 3 o'clock in the afternoon, that is all the time I can afford.Your getting up at 5 or 6am is inspiring. Perhaps doing that would help me to make my next goal; 5 miles.I have no aspirations of running a full marathon, though I applaud you for such a goal. I do plan one day to run a 5k just to say I did it.Thanks for the lovely story and inspiration.

I tried to jog a few times a week, preferably three times at least.
